Dear Members,
This is the first EALS e-newsletter in 2008. On behalf of EALS, allow me therefore to wish all our esteemed members, stakeholders and readers a happy new year. We wish you prosperity, health and good tidings in 2008. We re-affirm our commitment to serving you with dedication towards realizing our mission statement which is to facilitate, enhance and harmonize the development of the legal profession, promote good governance, the just rule of law and human rights through capacity building, advocacy and partnerships in pursuit of improved human development in the region.
EALS will in the year prioritize activities aimed at consolidating its position in delivery of legal services, keeping its Membership well informed and building capacities for access to just law. EALS also plans to consolidate its work in Rwanda and Burundi who were recently admitted to the EAC, with their respective national bar associations also becoming part of EALS. In this regards, EALS has bolstered its staff with the arrival of two new staff as you will see elsewhere in the newsletter.
We thank you for your support in 2007 and look forward to more collaboration this year. This particular edition re-caps on the recently held Annual General Meeting and the E.A. Civil Society Forum among others.
