EALS leverages its human and intellectual resources promote the common good of the people of the region through targeted interventions on the issue of the public interest, particularly on the rule of law, democracy, respect for human and peoples' rights and peace building. The theme emphasizes;
- Public interest litigation in regional and continental courts, to seek judicial re-affirmation of the EAC partner states obligations to promote and protect human rights and observe good governance.
- Lobbying and advocacy under which the EALS empowers the EAC citizenry with the information on their legal rights and obligations; and continuously monitors and pronounces itself on the state of human rights and governance within the EAC.
- Conflict management program aimed at prevention, better management and peaceful resolution of governance and resource based conflicts in East Africa through targeted interventions such as election monitoring and high level dialogue visits.
