Professional Development Programme PDF 

A continuous programme that aims to catalyse, facilitate and promote great strides in the teaching, practice and harmonisation of law in East Africa, and in the welfare of advocates.

Status:
Consensus in principle with the four national Bar associations for joint activity implementation, especially in matters of international legal practice and also constitutionalism and human rights. Negotiations for programme and financial support from the Canadian bar association at an advanced stage. Meanwhile the PDP is incorporated into every project and undertaking of EALS.

EALS encourages Research and Development to enable the institution to develop and have in place Well-informed policy positions so that it can easily influence and lobby towards realising its mandate at the east African Community. EALS also publishes and disseminates Authoritative publications and research reports based on its findings.
In terms of Continuous Legal Education, EALS advocates for Professional Capacity Building so as to encourage and put in place a Vibrant Community of Legal professionals and practitioners in the EA region who adhering to good practice standards

EALS is also working towards the adoption of a common code of practice ethics for lawyers in the east African region. This will enable the adoption of Regional Best Practice and the absorption of enhanced knowledge and skills of EA lawyers on litigation and application of community law.

In enhancing the professional development of the legal arena in the region, EALS hopes to Increase knowledge of best practices and of regionally/ internationally, increase respectability and position the recognition of EALS as the premier point of reference for EAC legal issues.
